You’ll Never Guess The Origin Of Some Of The Most Common Used Inventions
Belgium – Contraceptive Pill
Though Belgium is famous for many inventions, some people don’t know that contraceptive pills are also their innovation. In 1957 scientists produced a birth control pill in the United States; however, it caused many dangerous side effects. Four years later, a Belgian gynecologist Ferdinand Peeters came up with a better version without the severe harmful effects.
Since Belgium was a very religious country at the time, the contraceptive pill conflicted with popular beliefs, and Peeters found himself asked to keep the invention a secret. As a result, the medication never got patented by him, and later a German company bought the formula and rights.
