Wonders of the Modern World: Jaw-Dropping Infrastructures That Leave You in Awe
Belgium’s Sart Canal Bridge
It took four years to complete the Sart Canal Bridge in Belgium, with its construction beginning in the late ’90s and traffic not being able to cross until 2002. The bridge’s official webpage boasts that it spans an impressive 1,634 feet and has a capacity of 80,000 tons of water.
Reinforced and prestressed concrete was used to build this magnificent structure, which is also known as the Side Girder Bridge due to its design. It’s hard not to appreciate the breathtaking and visually appealing artistry that it offers. Not to mention that it holds the record for the heaviest overpass ever constructed using the incremental launching method.
