The Quiet Life of Some of the Greatest NFL Players
Jim Otto, 85, Oakland Raiders
Jim Otto is a legend in professional football, as he’s one of the few players to have achieved the feat of never missing a game in his entire career with the Oakland Raiders, despite the many injuries he sustained. His admirable dedication to the sport earned him three Pro Bowls and a 1970 All-Pro selection.
His football career was marred by numerous operations resulting from the physical impact of the sport, leading to the eventual amputation of his right leg in 2007. Otto wrote a memoir titled “The Pain of Glory,” detailing his near-death experiences and the physical toll that football had taken on him.
