The Blue Dragon and 39 Other Bizarre Creatures That Will Blow Your Mind
Vogelkop Superb Bird-Of-Paradise
In 2018, the Vogelkop superb bird-of-paradise was officially declared its very own species. The unique bird is native to Western New Guinea in Indonesia. And it’s well known for its rich black feathers, vibrant blue adornments, and the iconic dance moves it displays during courtship.
During that period, males bend their heads to reveal the crescent-shaped plumes behind their heads. Then they show off their blue breastplates and do a slight shimmy. Though the raven has dark plumage, the Vogelkop would give it a run for its money. After all, it’s considered the blackest bird in the world because it absorbs 99.9% of all light that hits it.
