The Blue Dragon and 39 Other Bizarre Creatures That Will Blow Your Mind
Stargazer Fish
The stargazer fish is one of 50 species in the Uranoscopidae family. It is reasonably large, often measuring from eight to 22 inches long. And its dark brown coloring helps it blend seamlessly with the ocean floor once it buries itself in the sand to lure unsuspecting prey.
As a carnivore, the stargazer’s diet consists of fish, crabs, crustaceans, and other small species. Once prey comes along, it pounces and sucks them into its open mouth. Some subspecies also have tentacles that serve as lures. Finally, this bottom feeder is highly venomous, and its sting is likely to cause pain and mild shocks in humans.
