The Blue Dragon and 39 Other Bizarre Creatures That Will Blow Your Mind

Wrinkle-Faced Bat

The wrinkle-faced bat looks like it’s been holding a grudge all its life. And that may explain why it also happens to have the most powerful bite force of any Neotropical leaf-nosed bat. And to continue the joke, its binomial name is Centurio senex, which loosely translates to 100-year-old-man.

Dwelling in forests throughout Central America, its diet consists mainly of overripe fruit. The wrinkles on its lips and jaw also help to filter juice during feeding, allowing it to store the pulp in its mouth temporarily. And during breeding, males cover their faces with a white mask-like flap of skin to catch the attention of females.
