The Blue Dragon and 39 Other Bizarre Creatures That Will Blow Your Mind
Casper Octopus
The Casper octopus was first discovered in 2016 in the Pacific Ocean. And it was named after the eponymous protagonist of the cartoon series, “Casper, The Friendly ghost.” The ghostly octopod was found at a depth of the ocean where its species are hardly ever seen, sparking excitement among scientists.
When it was first encountered, the octopus was sitting by itself on a flat rock 4,290 meters below. And unlike most cephalopods, it lacks the pigment cells that provide color-changing abilities. To reproduce, it attaches a clutch of eggs to a dead sponge, wraps its body around it, and remains in this position until the eggs hatch.
