The Blue Dragon and 39 Other Bizarre Creatures That Will Blow Your Mind
Mexican Mole Lizard
The Mexican mole lizard has a misleading name because it’s much closer in appearance to an earthworm or snake than a lizard. Still, the odd-looking reptile is like a mole in that it spends most of its time burrowing underground.
The lizard is native to the Baja California Peninsula. But it can be found in both tropical and arid climates. As a diurnal animal, it prefers to stay active during the day and sleep at night, relying on the surrounding environment to help regulate its body temperature. And its most unique feature is its ability to detach its tail in response to danger.
