The Blue Dragon and 39 Other Bizarre Creatures That Will Blow Your Mind
Hairy Frog
Hair is one feature that no one would ever ascribe to a frog. But the Hairy frog, also known as the horror frog, puts that assumption to shame. As a species common to Central Africa, it gets its name from the hair-like structures that grow on the body and thighs of the breeding male.
Though mainly terrestrial, this amphibian lays its eggs in shallow water. It also does not display migratory behaviors. But its most bizarre feature is the set of retractable claws that it uses for defense. The frog forces these claws‒which are made of actual bone rather than keratin‒out of its skin during dangerous situations.
