As if the prominent beak on the helmeted hornbill doesn’t make it conspicuous enough, it also displays rowdy behavior. Though hardly ever seen, it is renowned for its loud arresting call that often ends with frenzied laughter. Little wonder it’s regarded as one of the world’s most charismatic birds.
This hornbill has shown a preference for lowland tropical forests with a plentiful supply of fruiting trees. So it can be found in places like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Brunei Darussalam. Sadly, its numbers have plummeted over the years, and in 2015, the IUCN Red List changed its status to critically endangered.
