The Blue Dragon and 39 Other Bizarre Creatures That Will Blow Your Mind
Ctenophore
Did you know that the Ctenophore is the largest non-colonial animal in the world that uses cilia for movement? The gelatinous species, also known as comb jelly or comb jellyfish, can be found in oceans and brackish waters all across the globe. But it cannot survive in freshwater.
Comb jellies are mainly carnivorous. They prey on other ctenophores, small crustaceans, and fish larvae. And to feed, they often form webs with their tentacles or lure prey in by dangling sticky lures. Occasionally, they even rely on ambush. Most happen to be hermaphrodites with both male and female organs, and they possess the ability to regrow limbs.
