Waimea Canyon State Park — Kauai
We can’t get enough of Hawaii’s unique selection of natural parks, and the stunning Waimea Canyon is one of our favorites so far. Hawaii’s own version of the Grand Canyon, Waimea, resulted from the extreme rainfall on Kauai’s central peak, the shield volcano Mount Wai’ale’ale (said to be one of the wettest places on the planet).
If exploring Haleakala was like walking on the moon, visiting Waimea is a little bit like going to Mars. After all, it’s no coincidence that the word ‘Waimea means ‘reddish water’ in Hawaiian. But now it’s time to get back to planet Earth to enjoy a nice cup of coffee…
