Princess Diana shook up the traditional royal family in more ways than one. This started from the day she picked her engagement ring from the royal jeweler. As the story goes, she had her heart set on a piece with a prominent sapphire stone surrounded by diamond studs.
Her choice of accessory reportedly caused controversy within Prince Charles’ family. Apparently, they weren’t too happy that Lady Di picked something that can be bought by commoners from a catalog. It all worked out, though, and the sapphire sparkler was passed on to Kate Middleton when Prince William used it to propose to her.
