When Nathan Lane came out to his mother, aged 21, her reception was a bit cold at first, though luckily, things improved eventually. Nathan chose to make an official public announcement confirming his orientation in 1999 in the wake of Matthew Shepard’s passing.
Since then, he’s gone on to win several awards, including the Matthew Shepard Foundation Making A Difference Award and the Human Rights Campaign Equality Award. These honors are all attributed to Nathan’s work for the LGBT community. Not just generous, the selfless star’s also given us superhit films like The Bird Cage and The Producers during his spectacular career that’s still going strong as ever.
