Ever Wondered How Life Was Back in the Day? These Vintage Images Show How Drastically the World Has Changed

Stop Right Now, Thank You Very Much

How did the authority manage traffic jams back in the day? They used what was called a catwalk car. Specifically installed in Holland under the Hudson River, these patrol vehicles proved effective in addressing the road issue instead of the police on foot.

At the time, the Port Authority Police Department wanted to cut staffing by using these tiny contraptions that could run for up to 12 miles per hour. After its success, other catwalk vehicles reached the Lincoln Tunnel by the ’60s. According to The Drive, some of the tracks remained installed, but the cars are nowhere to be found.
