A Miracle in Marble Called ‘The Veiled Christ’
This statue called “The Veiled Christ” is one of the most beautiful and mysterious masterpieces. Tourists flock to see it displayed in Sansevero Chapel in Naples, Italy, by the millions. Initially, Prince Raimondo di Sangro instructed Antonio Corradini to make a life-size statue of Christ. But the artist died, so he tapped Giuseppe Sanmartino to create the monument out of a marble depicting the Lord covered in a shroud.
The result was an intricate artwork unique from Corradini’s original unfinished work. Nonetheless, Sanmartino did a phenomenal job of showcasing realistic details such as veins and wounds on the feet and head.
