The company responsible wanted to compete against its rival and was determined to launch a colossal watercraft that would be known for its elegance. As such, White Star Line spent $7.5 million ($200 million today) for this.
Around 3K personnel constructed the mammoth boat, including these guys who looked minuscule as compared to the Titanic’s chains. There was some bad luck following the ship from the start because, during its construction, at least eight laborers reportedly died.
