Commoner to Duchess: The Story of Kate Middleton’s Rise to the Top

Walking Down the Aisle

Eventually, the wildly-anticipated day came around—the wedding. Kate had been a commoner all along, but on April 29, 2011, she said goodbye to her past life and became a new and official member of the British Royal Family.

The wedding took place at Westminster Abbey. Over three billion people worldwide watched as the bride of the century walked down the aisle in her custom-made Alexander McQueen dress. The dress incorporated the rose, thistle, daffodil, and shamrock to represent each country that made up the United Kingdom. Kate also wore a stunning Cartier tiara, which the Queen had received on her 18th birthday.
