In the book version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, author Stieg Larsson had a very specific description of his girl, Lisbeth Salander. She had to be skinny, flat-chested with short hair and lots of piercings. Dare we say it, but the casting team did a good job choosing Rooney Mara to play the role.
She embraced the role, getting piercings, cutting her hair, and adopting a more boyish persona. Her work in the role earned her an Oscar nomination and opened doors for her to other films like Side Effect and Her. Mara is set to star in an upcoming psychological thriller called Nightmare Alley.
