Youngster Art Collector Acquires Painting At Cheap Auction, Later Finds Out Its Real Worth
A Spot Of Art History
While Stephen Padlo could only make out the artist’s name, David Weiss told him what the rest was. The painting’s signature read as Albert Neuhuys, who just so happened to be a famous Dutch artist. In fact, he was one of the most famous painters from the Laren School.
The Laren School was a colony of artists inspired by the village of Laren and its people. This was first discovered by Jozef Israëls, with Neuhuys being one of the first artists to follow him there. He was also friends with artists like Anton Mauve from The Hague, where most Laren School artists originate from.
