Germany – MP3 Format
In 1987, Karlheinz Brandenburg together with Ernst Eberlein, Heinz Gerhauser Jurgen Herre, Bernhard Grill and Harald Popp invented the MP3 format for audio data compression; at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits in Erlangen. The MP3 type’s hook was its ability to compress files, making it a fitting, flexible and voguish way of storing music without losing any audio quality.
Not so long after, the MP3 format revolutionized the music industry after its release in 1993. While it has been outpaced by newer and more advanced audio codecs like AAC over time, MP3 is still popular among music consumers.
