When you search for the inventor of the ultrasound, several names will come up. That’s because many discoveries aided in making the way to the building of the machine. Nevertheless, they point to English doctor Ian Donald as the first to include ultrasound in the OB/GYN field of medicine.

Yet did you know that one invented in Australia was the technically superior one and was the first commercially practical option? In 1961, David Robinson and George Kossoff from Australia built the CAL Echoscope, the country’s first ultrasound scanner. It was the duo who changed how medicine used ultrasound technology around the globe.
