You’ll Never Guess The Origin Of Some Of The Most Common Used Inventions
Switzerland – Velcro
Who would have ever believed that a walk down the mountains would have birthed an invention and a multinational company? Velcro, popularly used today as a fastener for clothing, was invented during a hunt in the Jura Mountains.
In 1941, the Swiss Engineer George de Metral noticed how the hooks of cockle-burrs stuck to his woolen socks and coat and decided to study it further. With the aid of friends in the weaving industry, he developed the fasteners we know today as Velcro. George coined the name from the French words Velour (‘velvet’) and Crochet (‘hook’), even naming the company that he established after the same moniker.
