Wonders of the Modern World: Jaw-Dropping Infrastructures That Leave You in Awe
Wuppertal Suspension Monorail.
The Wuppertal Suspension Railway, also known as the Eugen Langen Monorail Overhead Conveyor System, is the world’s oldest electric railway with floating vehicles. Beginning its operation in 1901, the design’s viability was questioned three times before approval. Approximately 25 million people are believed to ride the invention annually, with an average of 80,000 daily passengers.
As the train travels 40 feet above the ground, it is suspended over the Wupper River, providing a fantastic view of the city’s industrial landscape. Despite its age, the suspension railway is still operating today and remains a beloved and iconic symbol of Wuppertal’s industrial heritage.
