Vintage Subway Photos That Will Make You Feel The Rush Of Living In A Different Era

Eyes and Ears of the Subway, NYC – 1981

Subway conductors were one of the unsung heroes of the underground system during the ’80s. After all, they had to deal with many things like keeping an eye on passengers. They even acted as the voice of everyone on board while maneuvering the vehicle.

With crimes happening everywhere during those times, these transit officials had the burden to keep things on the tracks and in coaches running smoothly. Nowadays, subway conductors serve as the communicator on behalf of the passengers to the main office. Gone are the days when gunshots and looting in the subway were a typical sight.
