A Tree of Webs To Shelter Spiders From the Flood

Pakistan experienced a devastating natural disaster in 2010 when heavy monsoon rains caused widespread flooding across the country. The floods affected an estimated 20 million people, with many losing their homes, crops, and livelihoods. The disaster also resulted in over 1,500 deaths, even leading spiders to seek refuge in treetops.

Although rain washes away spider webs, the arachnids built thick ones among the leaves and branches, creating a creepy and unusual sight. Multimedia personality Russell Watkins captured this scene, noting that there had been no scientific study of the situation. However, he speculated that the cocoons could house a combined species of insects that might threaten the spiders.
