In May 2019, according to online data, Pinkston wrote a Facebook post about transgender women, which was immediately reposted and condemned by many famous people. Pinkston later explained that she only wanted to open a dialogue about a transgender woman who was killed earlier that year, Malaysia Booker, and has apologized to everyone who felt offended multiple times. She even received death threats, as she revealed in interviews later on.
