30 Secrets that the Royal Family didn’t want you to know

Royals Serve Fruitcake At Weddings

The royal family tends to stick to tradition, and weddings are no exception. One enduring custom that’s survived generations is serving fruitcake at nuptials. The queen did it. Prince Charles, too. And so did Prince William. This pastry preference can be traced to a time when fruitcakes symbolized wealth and prosperity because its ingredients were harder to come by.

The sweet treat also tends to last for a long time—decades even—allowing royal bakers to decorate the cake without spoiling it. In fact, slices of fruitcake from Princess Diana’s wedding in the ‘80s are still preserved and edible decades later.
