Drag queens Angel Jack and Hibiscus, both members of the Angels of Light theater group, often performed at Studio 54. So, we aren’t surprised to see them coming out to support the then-troubled establishment when it reopened in 1981. Wearing full faces of makeup and sequined outfits, of course.
The two were, reportedly, not just artistic collaborators but also lovers. For all the glitter and glam that filled Hibiscus’ life, his last days were marred with tragedy as he was among the first casualties of AIDs, an epidemic known as GRID back in the day.
