Italian designer Elio Fiorucci didn’t just have a talent for creating colorful clothing. He also had a knack for putting on equally flashy productions at Studio 54. In fact, he even helped organize the grand opening of the nightclub in 1977 along with the Alvin Ailey dance company.

Here’s a glimpse of that fateful April 1977 day’s festivities. As you can see, he was quite ahead of his time with his pick of athletic wear for leisure. Fiorucci, who passed away in 2015, also owned his own shop, which some dubbed as the “daytime Studio 54”, in New York City at the time.
