Seeing the moving dot for themselves, de la Corte’s co-workers confirmed that his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him. Before they knew what was going on, something materialized in their field of vision. Was it a bird? No, it was a plane!
Squinting at the incoming aircraft, they realized that it was a DC-4 McDonell Douglas passenger plane. The model was first produced in the ‘30s by Douglas Aircraft Co. and entered service in 1946. It was a commercial flight, after all. So, why wasn’t its arrival written down on their schedule then?
