One look at this image, and you might say that it is a painting given how unbelievable it seems. This picture dates from the late ’20s and shows workers trying to fix a Greek architectural column at the St Louis Court building, eventually completed in 1930.
Taken by W.C. Runder, you can have sweaty palms just by looking at this! It is worth noting that the workers didn’t have any harnesses, so safety probably wasn’t the priority back in the day. An interesting fact for history and architecture buffs, the building’s design drew inspiration from King Mausolus’ tomb.
