Ever Wondered How Life Was Back in the Day? These Vintage Images Show How Drastically the World Has Changed
A ‘Foggy’ State
One fateful day in July 1945, the fog was so thick that visibility was poor for aircraft pilots. A B-25 bomber plane headed for Newark crashed into the Empire State Building, claiming 14 lives and causing at least $1 million (now $13 million) in damages. It left a massive hole on the 79th floor while significant wreckage fell on the street.
The petrol also leaked, causing some of the floors to catch fire. In a New York Daily News report, it was mentioned that the other levels weren’t affected, so by the following Monday, things seemed back to normal.
