Johnny Briggs – Mike Baldwin, Coronation Street
Johnny Briggs played Coronation Street’s ladies man and market stallholder, Mike Baldwin, for over 1,500 episodes from 1974 until 2006. And he ended that three-decade tenure with a memorable and heartbreaking exit dying of a heart attack in the arms of his rival-turned-friend Ken Barlow.
Fortunately, Briggs didn’t have the same fate as his character. The 85-year-old British Soap Award winner seems to be doing fine these days as he spends his time away from the spotlight. He hasn’t acted since appearing in an episode of Doctors in 2009.
