Don’t freak out, this isn’t a portal to another world; it’s just a man-made dam (unbelievable, we know, but it’s true). Though it looks like a random whirlpool, this Portuguese structure that has existed since 1955 is built with a very specific purpose.
Popularly known as Covão do Conchos, it’s situated in the Serra da Estrela Lake in Continental Portugal. It is an integral component of a hydro-electric system that channels water to a different dam situated on Flores Island called the Lagoa Comprida dam. Various drone camera pictures of this dam have surfaced globally, leaving people in awe.
