A Photographer Stepped Into a Neglected Home to Show Us a Unique Piece of American History
Still Safe After All These Years
Naturally, we’re not able to tell if this safe still contains the original items that Marion Carll herself may have secured inside. But while it may be empty, it still is a fine and admirable object by itself. These sturdy safes were produced by an 1800s company called Hall’s Safe Company (a mighty pun of “all is safe”?) that still exists today!
Proving that old-style manufacturing never goes out of business, the Hall’s Safe Company still delivers safes worldwide. They are now producing a new line of sturdier, more modern safes, but they have continued to sell traditional versions similar to the one in the picture.
