A Photographer Stepped Into a Neglected Home to Show Us a Unique Piece of American History

A Registered Historical Place

Even though Marion Carll’s Farmhouse has surely not been used as the “historical museum” Carll dreamed of, it’s actually been registered as a historic place since 1979. The building meets all of the four criteria required by the National Register of Historic Places.

Besides being a great sample of American culture, the farmhouse is associated with significant people (Walt Whitman’s ancestors once owned the site). It boasts distinctive architectural features, not to mention many antiques. Most importantly, the outbuildings are a lasting representation of how farm life used to look like in the 19th century.
