According to ABC, there are many reasons Google Maps or Google Earth blurs out specific locations as per an expert. Speaking to the outlet about the pixelations and other forms of censorship, geospatial science lecturer Amy Griffin explained that there are facilities that the government doesn’t want to be exposed to due to security purposes.
It is worth noting that anyone can ask the search engine giant to hide their home from these apps if they want to. Google explained that they would comply if anyone made the request. It can also blur out persons and license plates.
