The Great Blue Hole
One of the most popular is located off the coast of Belize called the Great Blue Hole, which digs 410 feet (125 meters) into the earth, leaving only a few brave souls to explore what lies beneath. According to Business Insider, personnel from Aquatica Submarines did try to find out for themselves in 2018.
The group wanted to create a 3D model of the sinkhole, but they weren’t prepared for what they witnessed. They saw sharks, reefs, and corals when they started, but around 90 meters in, signs of life had disappeared. On that level was a layer of a toxic substance, hydrogen sulfide.
