Wonders of the Modern World: Jaw-Dropping Infrastructures That Leave You in Awe
The Inguri Dam
The Inguri Dam is a hydroelectric powerhouse located on the Inguri River in Georgia, near the border with Abkhazia. It is currently the second-highest concrete arch dam in the world. Its construction was a joint project between the former Soviet Union and Georgia and was completed in 1987 after 26 years of work.
Aside from its impressive size and visual appeal, the construction is a valuable asset to the surrounding community. It provides electricity to both Georgia and Abkhazia and also serves as a source of irrigation water. Despite being located in a politically contentious area, the dam has continued to operate as a symbol of cooperation and mutual benefit.
