Vintage Subway Photos That Will Make You Feel The Rush Of Living In A Different Era
A Beautiful Chaos, NYC – 1980
Although New York mayor John Lindsay declared the initial war on graffiti in 1972, subways continued to be emblazoned with writings in different colors even in the early ’80s. The mass transit system was far from perfect as depicted in this photo, add to the mix of crime and homelessness.
Tired passengers inched their way inside the already cramped up coaches, eagerly wanting to go home after a day’s work. Despite New York City’s great promise of brighter opportunities, the subway system vividly displayed another side of the story. Imagine being dead-tired but still having to cram your way through a crowd.
