Are you ready to ride a classic New York City subway train? The photo you see above was for the annual MTA Holiday Nostalgia Train rides in 2017. Yet, it still has every right to be called vintage because of the R 1/9 coaches used in service between the early ’30s and late ’70s.
How can one not feel nostalgia with those light bulbs, ceiling fans, woven wicker seats, and windowpanes one can use to let fresh air in before air conditioners were even a thing! And of course, straps to hang on to, which is why NYC subway riders were dubbed as ‘straphangers.’
