Bird Beard Gang

Apparently, humans are not the only ones growing their beards. Lammergeiers, known as bearded vultures, also keep facial hair. These magnificent birds of prey are found in the mountainous regions of Europe, Africa, and Asia. They have a distinctive appearance: a long wedge-shaped tail, a prominent beard of feathers under their chin, and striking orange-red plumage on their head and neck.

Lammergeiers feed mainly on bones that crack open with their powerful beaks. They drop bones from a great height to crack them open and consume the marrow inside. Also known for their impressive soaring ability, they can glide for hours on warm thermals with infrequent wingbeat.
