At Least The Lunch Made It On Board
Just like in elevators, people often stick their hands between open train doors to let other riders in. Frequent subway users are familiar with the scene in the photo. We’d like to imagine that a person tried to stop the door from fully closing by throwing this plastic bag containing his restaurant takeout.
Although this technique often works, it isn’t as safe as we think. In 2003, a woman from Germany tried to hold the door for another passenger who was boarding but was surprised that it closed, leaving her arm stuck inside the train as it started to move. She got dragged for a couple of minutes before the driver stopped the train.
