Starting his career in 1996’s World Junior Championships, 3,000 meters steeplechase specialist Günther Weidlinger had all eyes on him when he competed in the 2007 Osaka World Championships. From his past performances, fans expected him to finish first, just like he did in European U23 Championship in 1999, but a nerve-wracking incident awaited him.
Colliding face-first into the bar, Weidlinger looked like he had several hospital visits in tow. Thankfully, he was discharged with only a split lip and cut jaw. Leaving steeplechase and running a marathon seems like a good decision for him. At least there’ll be no bars to smash into.
