The dilapidated dwelling exuded an unwelcoming aura, and Daisy found herself questioning why the dog seemed so attached to this place. Had the Labrador been dwelling here all along, in solitude? The existence of coordinates on the dog’s collar suggested that someone might have been, or still be, visiting the spot.
The ground level was deserted, providing no signs of human or canine presence. However, John chanced upon a stairway leading to the upper floor. Perhaps the Labrador had scampered up those steep steps? Just as they stood gazing upwards, the familiar bark echoed down the staircase, resounding throughout the silent house.
