The Blue Dragon and 39 Other Bizarre Creatures That Will Blow Your Mind
Indian Gharial
The Indian Gharial is easily recognized by its long, narrow snout and the rows of sharp interlocking teeth sitting along its jaws. The species originated in the rivers of Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan. But since it was categorized as an endangered species, only fragmented populations remain in Northern India and Nepal.
The gharial ranks among the largest crocodilians in the world, with females reaching up to 15 feet and males 20 feet. Adults feed on fish primarily, while the young rely on crustaceans, frogs, and insects for nutrients. And because its weak leg muscles limits movement, it slides across the ground on its belly.
