Established by Congress in 1980, this tourist location was once the setting of two leper colonies. Historically, leper colonies are places meant to isolate people with leprosy from the rest of the population.

Once a nightmarish site, Kalaupapa is now a must-visit Hawaiian location. Leprosy hasn’t been around here since the late 1800s, so you can safely enjoy the breathtaking views of this historic park.
