Thelma Barlow – Mavis Wilton, Coronation Street
Thelma Barlow has been in a lot of things since she left Coronation Street in 1997. You might have seen her face in shows like Doctor Who and the 2016 film Florence Foster Jenkins, which is her latest credited role. While she hasn’t announced her retirement yet, it seems like fans won’t see her return to the soap.
The now-91-year-old actress said that she has refused invitations to reprise the role of newsagent Mavis Wilton again. Barlow reasoned that she simply wouldn’t know how to play the character anymore despite spending 26 years of her life portraying her.
