That’s also thanks to the former theater’s cavernous size and its owners’ efforts to mold it into what Architectural Digest dubbed as a “paradigm-shifting” place.

Ian Schraeger and Steve Rubell were constantly renovating the nightclub throughout its original three-year run. They even added a Sweeney Todd-inspired moving bridge inside. Safe to say Schraeger learned a lot from this exciting time in his life for his later career as a hotelier. He is reportedly credited for coming up with the concept of a boutique hotel.
